F. Robert "Bob" Sandin Obit

F. ROBERT "BOB" SANDIN, 80, of Rabbit Lake Township, died last week after a five-week bout of esophageal cancer.  He was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1939. His family emigrated to New Jersey later that year (due to Nazi aggression) and then to Connecticut.
We all know that Bob went to the University of Connecticut (Go UConn!) where he got his teaching degree.  During college, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce.
He spent almost all of his career as a sixth grade teacher at Ledyard Center School.  Bob was a respected and able teacher.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and was enjoyed by his peers as well as his students.
He was active in Jaycees, the town fair, CT teachers’ association and golfing.  He ran the youth basketball program and chess club.  He was in leadership with all the home, prayer groups of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in southeastern CT.
He married Ruth in 1992 and after retirement, they moved to Minnesota  where Bob quickly became involved in local school, civic and church endeavors. He was involved in Unlimited Learning and Great Decisions.  He worked on numerous committees due to his school board position and community interest. He worked at JC Penney for 15 years.
As a strong Christian believer, he was committed to prayer, Bible study and church affairs.
It was hard to spend time with (or get hugs from) Bob and not come away with a sense that he was someone special.  His life was marked by generosity, kindness and thoughtfulness.  He loved God and he loved people.
The farewell to Bob will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby, Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m.  Visitation one hour before.  In lieu of flowers, please give to a Christian charity of your choice.
Jesus said "By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.”  John 13:35
