Matt Bernard Butorac Obit

MATT BERNARD BUTORAC,  94, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Oct. 17, 2020 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI.
Matt was born on Oct. 25, 1925 in Crosby, the son of Marco and Anna (Adams) Butorac. He attended the Crosby Schools, graduating from Crosby High School in 1943. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran of WWII.
Matt married Alice Cecelia Picard on July 6, 1946 in Brainerd.  Matt and Alice built a home in Ironton while starting a family of five children, and after 20 years relocated to the Iron River area. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 2010. Alice preceded him in death on May 29, 2011.
Matt was employed as an underground iron ore miner by Inland Steel for 36 years. Matt was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, American Legion Reino Post #21, the Knights of Columbus, the Croatian Fraternal Union and the NRA.  He was an inquisitive and avid reader and enjoyed fishing and hunting.  
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice, two brothers Joe and Frank Butorac and four sisters Mary Domencich, Martha Miller, Margaret Harrison and Elsie Skoff.
Matt is survived by his sons, Matthew (Mary Jane) Butorac of Palm Springs, CA, and Martin (Kathleen) Butorac of Richfield, WI; daughters, Mary (Gary) Shepich of Richland, MI, Barbara (Larry) Eastham of Soldotna, AK, and Paula (Roger) Thomas of Satellite Beach, FL; sisters, Frances Vidmar and Elizabeth Formanek; eight grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family.  
Matt’s children are profoundly grateful for Matt’s care provided by the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Iron County Medical Care Facility at Crystal Falls, MI and the Aspirus Hospital at Iron River, MI.
Funeral services at the St. Agnes Catholic Church and burial at the Stambaugh Cemetery will be held at a future date in mid 2021.
