Dale Rodell Obit

DALE RODELL, a devoted husband, father, teacher, and friend, died Jan. 11, 2025 surrounded by family. He touched the lives of many through both his career and the simple joys he shared with those closest to him. He was born on Feb. 25, 1940 to parents Richard and Dorothy Rodell in Superior, WI. Born with a sharp mind and a dry sense of humor, he spent his career as a biology teacher at Burnsville High School, where he inspired generations of students to appreciate the wonders of science. He retired in 1997, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity and learning. In 1973 he married Darlys Koenen and together they built their home in Apple Valley. It was a life filled with love, laughter, and family. They raised two wonderful daughters, Jennifer and Erica, who were the center of his world. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his loved ones up north at his cabin on Ruth Lake in Emily, whether it was enjoying a peaceful evening pontoon ride, playing a round of cribbage with his daughters, or a late night bonfire by the lake. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and many dear friends. He is survived by his children Jennifer Prestegaard (husband Matthew and two children), and Erica Brown (husband Dave and three children), his siblings Richard (Sue) Rodell, James (Sandy) Rodell and John (Alice) Rodell as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. A celebration of his life will be planned later this spring up north in Emily. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Minnesota Lakes and Rivers (mnlakesandrivers.org) to help support the environment.
