Douglas David Mingus Obit

DOUGLAS DAVID MINGUS, 91, of Deerwood, joined his wife in his eternal home on Feb. 9, 2020 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. He was born on Feb. 9, 1929 in Oakland, CA to Scott and Bessie (Dougal) Mingus. Doug grew up in Cromwell. Doug married Betty Lou Bryant on Dec. 31, 1949 in Duluth. He was employed as a bricklayer and a college administrator. He graduated from St. Thomas College in St. Paul with a degree in History and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, with a Masters in College Business Management. Doug was part of the administration of the Mount Senario College in Ladysmith, WI and the Northland College in Ashland, WI. He returned to bricklaying when they moved to Deerwood in the 1970s. Doug was a devoted member of the St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin.
Preceding Doug in death are his parents; his wife of 69 years Betty Lou, three brothers, Truman, Bob and Vance; and one sister, Gertrude Christy.
Doug is survived by two sons, David Mingus of Nashville, TN and Mark (Laurie) Mingus of Thompson’s Station, TN; one daughter, Cynthia (Donald) Lent of Deerwood; one brother, John Mingus of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Megan Lent, Andrew (Kirsten) Lent, Rachel (Josh) Nienow, Ericka (Jonathan) Sugiyama and Nathan (Mallory) Mingus; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Lent and Deklan Mingus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin. Burial will be at the St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin. A visitation will be on Tuesday at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
