Edwin Burgstaler Obit

EDWIN BURGSTALER, 96, of Aitkin, died on Feb. 11, 2020 at Essentia St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.  He was born on June 2, 1923 in Dean Lake Township to Frank and Frances (Smolnikar) Burgstaler.  Ed married Helen Scheffler on June 25, 1949 in Aitkin.  He loved farming and was a farmer all of his life.  He also worked at the Soo Line Railroad and Pittsburg Pacific Mining Co.  He was the oldest Burgstaler and was very proud of it.  An avid bird watcher and 4-wheeler enthusiast, he always recommended Allis Chalmers farm equipment and Chevrolet vehicles.
Preceding him in death are his parents; two brothers, Frank and John Burgstaler and three sisters, Ann Hamilton, Sylvia Sabart and Fronie Deblock.
He is survived by his wife Helen; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin A. and Jane Burgstaler of Rochester; Fred (Debbie Spychala) Burgstaler of Aitkin and Donald Burgstaler of Aitkin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Larry Carlson and Wendy Burgstaler all of Aitkin and Cindy and Gordon Collin, Jr.,  of Brooklyn Park; one brother and sister-in-law, Rudy and Joyce Burgstaler of Kimball; two sisters, Vickie McCollum of Ocean City, CA and Ollie DeYoung of Henderson, NV; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby.  Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby.  Visitation will be Wednesday at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. A reception will follow at the Aitkin VFW.
