Farewell from Chief Coughlin

Thank you and good bye

Dear Editor:
[Editor's note: The following is the text of the remarks given by Crosby Police Chief Kim Coughlin during her last Crosby City Council meeting as chief of police.]
As I approach the end of my career as the Chief of Police for the City of Crosby I would like to take this opportunity to thank the council and residents of the City of Crosby for providing me with the opportunity to serve you.
Over the past 15 years, eight months, and eight days there have been some trying times, but they are greatly overshadowed by the good days and the wonderful people I have met on this journey.
Crosby is my home town and I am proud to say that. This is a safe town with so much to offer and that is no longer a secret. Visitors are attracted to the amenities and locals are blessed to be able to experience the beauty of the area year-round.
As I reflect on my days with the Crosby Police Department, I am warmed by the welcome I received when I joined the department. Face it, a woman in a predominantly male profession adds challenges. But the Crosby Police Department and my fellow law enforcement officers supported me, and I am grateful. The officers serving the Crosby Police Department are the finest you will find. I am honored to have been their chief.
And to you mayor and council, thank you for supporting me. It isn’t easy to be subjected to the constant banter of unfounded badgering that has become the norm. When I felt the weight, you were there with words of encouragement.  God will make that right in His time. Know that your kindness will always be with me.
To the residents of Crosby, thank you for trusting me with your safety. It has been a privilege and an honor.
