Gordon Herbert Jacobson Obit
GORDON HERBERT JACOBSON, 83, of Deerwood, died on Feb. 10, 2024 surrounded by family and friends at his home. He was born in Granite Falls Township on June 16, 1940 to Herbert and Ruth (Peterson) Jacobson. Gordon graduated from the Montevideo High School, class of 1958. He attended NDSU in Fargo, ND graduating in 1963 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He worked his way through college including radio announcing on the college radio station and Fargo radio stations. After college he married Audrey Walker on Aug. 11, 1963 in Garrison, ND. Gordon’s career was spent mostly in nuclear energy, working for Phillips Petroleum Nuclear Division and Northern States Power Co. His career was spent in Idaho, South Dakota and Minnesota. He spent much of his career in Monticello where he and Audrey raised their three children. Gordon was active in his community, serving in Lions, church and the Monticello Hospital Board, including chairmanship of the hospital board for several years. Gordon retired at age 59 and moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area. He remained active in community and church. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and BWCA camping with family and friends. He was an avid reader and also loved traveling. He also enjoyed building and remodeling. Gordon was a loving, devoted family man. Preceding Gordon in death are his parents; two children, Eric Jacobson and Kristin Lighty; one brother, Stanley Jacobson and two sisters, Helen Ockwig and Phyllis Summers. Gordon is survived by his wife Audrey; his daughter, Jennifer (Tom) Cruikshank of New Port Beach, CA; and four grandchildren, Jay and Calvin Cruikshank and Brandon and Melissa Lighty. A Memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Monticello at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
