Hubert and Sharon Vassar Obits

Heaven gained two angels when Hubert Vassar, age 85, and Sharon (Mosher) Vassar, age 83, passed away at their home in Hopkins, Minnesota, on July 27, 2022. Hubert was born in Hopkins, on Feb. 22, 1937, to Philip and Genevieve (Krips) Vassar. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1955. Better known as Herb, he was a carpenter by trade and a proud union member throughout his career. He built their home in Hopkins in 1961, as well as the family cabin near Crosby. Herb was very active. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and ATV riding. Herb was always up for a lawn or board game, and he almost always won! Sharon was born in Buffalo on March 22, 1939, to Fred and Evelyn (Hoffman) Mosher. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1957. She was a secretary for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and was very proud of her work and contributions to saving endangered species. She enjoyed cooking and reading, but her true joy in life was her five children and 11 grandchildren. Sharon was a wonderful mother and grandmother, always ready with a smile, a hug, and good advice. Herb and Sharon met at the Meal-In-A-Bun drive-in restaurant in St. Louis Park, in 1955, where Sharon was employed as a carhop. Herb knew immediately that he was going to marry her someday. He was right, and after a few years of courting, Herb and Sharon were blissfully married for nearly 64 years. Together they raised five children in their Hopkins home, where they kept a meticulous lawn and garden. They were devout Catholics and members of St. Joseph’s parish, where they attended mass together regularly for over 60 years. They enjoyed traveling, especially camping trips with their children. They were an exceptionally devoted couple and set a wonderful example of life and love. Preceded in death by their parents, Hubert’s brother Philip R. Vassar and sister-in-law Emilie Vassar, Sharon’s sister Janice Mosher and brother-in-law Robert Beck.
