Marlene Clarice Sethney Obit

MARLENE CLARICE SETHNEY, 86, daughter of Melvin and Clara (Hushagen) Dalby, died March 15, 2025 in Sweetwater, TN. She grew up in rural Twin Valley, graduating from high school there and was baptized, confirmed and married in Wild Rice Lutheran Church. Following graduation, she attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis and completed LPN training at Bethesda Hospital, Crookston. In 1959 she was joined in marriage to Gerald Sethney, also of Twin Valley. Together they owned and operated Hoot Owl Resort, Waubun, for several years. Later, living in rural Deerwood, they built and operated a sea plane base on Birch Lake. After some years, they moved to rural Effie, where she has made her home since, being very active in her church there. The last few winters have been spent with her niece and husband in Sweetwater, TN. She was dedicated to her career as a nurse most of her adult life, working in nursing homes and hospitals in the areas where they lived. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 2017 and two nieces. Survivors include her sisters: Bernadene (Ordean) Bentley, Twin Valley and Pearl Hedin, Garrison, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Fredheim Lutheran Church in Effie.
