Vernice M. Grgurich Obit

VERNICE M. GRGURICH, 99, of Crosby,  died on June 3, 2024, in Onamia. She was born March 19, 1925, in New Bedford, MA to Charles and Mary Furtado. She was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, Fairhaven, MA, in 1942. She married Andrew Grgurich on Feb. 23, 1946 in Fairhaven, MA. She worked for five years as secretary to the superintendent of the Pickands-Mather Mining Co. and for 19 years as secretary to the superintendent of schools in Crosby. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Altar Society, was president of St. Joseph’s Home and School organization, a member of the Crosby Friday Study Club, secretary and treasurer of the Family Council of the Crosby Care Center and a volunteer advocate of the Minnesota Board on Aging.  Additionally, she was a member of the Crosby Women’s Club. Vernice is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, her sister Eleanore De Souza, her brothers Carl and Bob Furtado and her daughter Catherine Hotal. Survivors include her son, James Grgurich of Crosby, her son-in-Law, Scott Hotal of Isle; granddaughter, Amy Dow and husband Ken Dow of Brainerd and her five children, Grace Pegel, Sgt., Glorie Bartkowicz, Gaylan Pegel III, SPC Antonio Pegel, and PV2 Valentino Castillo and granddaughter Ashley King and her husband Kevin King of San Jose, CA and her child Kellin King, as well as many nieces and nephews across the United States. Often referred to as Nana by both family and friends, she will be greatly missed by her loved ones. Vernice will be laid to rest at Lakewood Cemetery on July 5 at 10 a.m. and graveside interment will be open to the public. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
