Carol E. Calkins Obit

CAROL E. CALKINS, 87, of Bay Lake Township. died on Jan. 16, 2020 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. She was born on Jan. 20, 1932 in Wibaux, MT to John and Stella (Pierce) Woods. Carol married Gene Calkins on Oct. 13, 1951 in Wibaux, MT. She attended the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood. Carol was a former longtime leader for the Bay Lake 4-H Club. Formerly she was employed as aid with Woodland Acres Nursing Home in Brainerd and Cedarbrook Manor in Deerwood and a baker for the Deerwood Supermarket.
Carol loved to garden and bake. Her coffee pot was always on and there were goodies on her table. She was viewed as the neighborhood mom and grandma. Her grandchildren were very special to her and loved spending time with them.
Preceding Carol in death are her parents; her husband, Gene in 2018; two sisters, Lois Thorpe and Dorothy Sellers; three brothers, Stanley, Keith and Charles Woods.
Carol is survived by six sons, David Calkins, Doug (Gay) Calkins, Richard (Jodi) Calkins, Robert (Lisa) Calkins, Michael (Tammy) Calkins and Patrick (Terri Knutson) Calkins all of Bay Lake Township; three daughters, Judy (Jim) O’Keefe of Crosby, Susan Calkins of Hopkins and Jeanette (Bert) Lener of Stanchfield; one brother, Phillip Woods of Charleston, SC; 14 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren; and special friends, Ann Anderson and Tim Johnson.
A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Visitation will from noon until the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
