Mona Dianne Mitchell Celebration of Life

MONA DIANNE MITCHELL passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 28, 2021 in Crosby. She was born, a twin, to Yvonne and Charlie Mitchell of Emily on Oct. 13, 1935. Mona spent a happy childhood in the Village of Emily surrounded by loving relatives and friends. After high school, Mona moved, by herself, to Colorado Springs, CO, where she allegedly had a very good time. Charles R. Waughop eventually convinced her to return to Minnesota and marry him, which she did. Together, they had two girls, Danette and Stephanie and lived in California, West Virginia and Illinois.
The couple divorced and Mona came back to the area she loved. She worked as a secretary for Hallett Construction Co. for many years. She also worked at In Fisherman, Brainerd, and Trus Joist MacMillan, Ironton.
Mona lived a large and courageous life as a single woman and mother during a time when being divorced was scandalous. She, alone, supported herself and provided every need for her girls.
Mona's many accomplishments and interests included painting on canvas, ceramics, sewing, knitting, crocheting (skills she passed on to her girls), doing her own home and yard maintenance, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, traveling, cake decorating and baby-sitting grandchildren. Mona achieved her long-time dream of building a beautiful home on Mitchell Lake in Fifty Lakes.
She is survived by her girls, grandchildren (Sarah, Lacey and Leanne, Claire and Joseph), two-and-one-half great-grandchildren (Barron, Josephine and ?), her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Loren Miller, twin brother Conrad and many nieces, nephew, cousins and one elderly, yet spunky Aunt Lorraine.
Won't you join us in celebrating Mona's life on June 11? An informal celebration will commence at 1 p.m. at 102 Second Street NW, Crosby. Food and beverages provided. Come and go as you please.
