Marianne Joy Burgstaler Obit

MARIANNE JOY BURGSTALER died Feb. 16, 2023 at her home in Helendale, CA. Marianne was born April 22, 1936 in Artesia, CA to Leona and Merrill Joy.  Marianne spent her early years in South Los Angeles County and  Artesia, CA.  In her teenage years she helped pick berries at the Knotts Berry Farm fields  and worked at the Knotts Berry Farm Restaurant. Marianne attended Ana-heim Union High School and graduated in 1954.   Marianne married Wayne Jarvis in 1958, and lived in Santa Ana, CA.  They had four children, Michael, Julie, Gary and Scott.  Wayne died in 1976 and Marianne single-parented her children after  Wayne’s death.   In 1991 Marianne met John “Butch” Burgstaler at General  Dynamics in Pomona, CA and they were married May 8, 1996 at Maui Meadows (Kihei), HI, while working at Hughes Missile Systems in Tucson, AZ. Marianne retired in 2000 and they moved to Riverside, CA.  In 2012, with Butch’s retirement, they moved to Helendale /Silver Lakes, CA. They spent summers in Crosby and purchased a summer home here in 2014.   Preceding her in death were her parents, son Michael Jarvis, daughter Julie Elston, and grandson Chase Jarvis. Marianne is survived by her husband Butch, children Gary and Debbie Jarvis, Huntington Beach CA;  Scott and Christy Jarvis, Riverside CA; Merry Burgstaler; Donnelly and  Bill, Indio CA; Kristin  Burgstaler Delgado and Jon, Yucaipa CA and Michael Burgstaler and  Jennifer Zinsmeister, New Richmond WI;  brother and sister-in-law Richard and Edra Joy, Littleton,CO.  She is survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Grace Bible Church, Helendale, CA on March 18, 2023.   A celebration of her life will be held at the Ironton American Legion on Saturday, June 10 at 3 p.m. Relatives and friends of Marianne and Butch are welcome.  A lunch will be served.  A video of the church service will be available to watch at the Ironton Legion or on You Tube at Grace Bible Church You Tube Marianne Burgstaler.   There is a several minute delay at the start of the video.
