Kennenth Melvin Wasserzieher Obit

KENNETH MELVIN WASSERZIEHER was born Nov. 17, 1932 to Edward and Hazel (Knieff) Wasserzieher in the Brainerd hospital. With his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon, by his side, he passed into the arms of our loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 21, 2023.
Ken began his early years in Deerwood with his parents, who established a small resort, Sunset Cabins, on Bay Lake, next to Ruttger’s Resort.
Ken attended school in Deerwood with his brothers Harlo and Gilbert. In 1951 he graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School.
Having enjoyed his time in shop class in high school, Ken continued to educate himself and became a Master Cabinetmaker. He enjoyed working for himself and creating unique designs for his customers to fit their needs.
Making maple syrup in the spring was a Wasserzieher family tradition. Ken remembers seeing old pictures of himself as a very young boy “attempting” to help. At that time, he was a bit too small for the job! When people asked him how long he had been making syrup, he would answer, “All my life.”
Ken was community minded and was a member of the Bay Lake Lions. He was a person of faith and belonged to the Community of Christ Church.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hazel Wasserzieher and brothers Harlo and Gilbert Wasserzieher.
His family left to mourn his passing are his wife, Sharon (Wolfe) Wasserzieher and his sons and daughters-in-law Steve and Patti, Ken and Becky and Brian and Lyn Wasserzieher; grandchildren Amber, Jared, Lindsay, Dylan, B.J., Kate, Karma and Keith; 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Ken requested there be no funeral. Per his wishes his body was donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program.
