Harley Linwood Lougee Obit

HARLEY LINWOOD LOUGEE, 91, of Merrifield, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023 at the Aitkin Health Care Center in Aitkin.
He was born in Merrifield in 1932 to Leland and Hazel Lougee, the sixth of eight children delivered at home. Harley attended a country primary school in Mission before going to Crosby-Ironton High School. Harley joined the Navy after his graduation and was stationed stateside in New Jersey. After being discharged from the service, Harley returned to the area and became a very skilled and detailed woodworker and craftsman who was well-known and sought after for his  carpentry skills.  He made many special items for his family and customers.  He loved the outdoors and fishing, fishing and more fishing.  Harley was well loved by his family and his many acquaintances. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and his nieces and nephews have fond memories of his interactions and teasing of them. He was given the nickname of “Uncle Chuckles”!
Harley was preceded in death by his parents: Leland and Hazel, wife Janice Lougee, wife Josephine Lougee, significant partner Barb Johnson, first infant sibling, sisters: Joyce Zuelich, Juanita Graf, brothers: Sam, Jack and Bobby.
He is survived by his son Alan Lougee; two grandsons Jeremy (Jennie) and Patrick (Deana); six great-grandchildren; sister Hazel Yotter; sister-in-law Bev Lougee; several nieces, nephews, other special relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.  Military honors will be accorded by Aitkin American Legion Lee Post #86 & Aitkin VFW Roberts-Glad Post #1727.  Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake.
