Daryl David Proffit Obit

DARYL DAVID PROFFIT, 76, of Crosslake, passed away on June 27, 2024 at the Estates at Roseville.  He was born in Pine River on Nov. 18, 1947 to Dallas and Betty (Peterson) Proffit.   He attended elementary school in Fifty Lakes and Junior High in Pine River.  His family moved to Montana in 1962, settling in Gardiner, MT.  He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1965.  He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966, where he served as a mechanic.   Daryl married Dorothy Rae “Dottie” Voeltz and they had two children.  After leaving the military Daryl worked for his brother, Dennis, with Proffit Construction in Gardiner, MT for 30 years.  In 1996 Daryl moved to Minnesota where he worked with Schweiter’s Construction doing finish carpentry.  Together with his life partner, Mary Smith, he moved to Crosslake in 1999 where they purchased Diner’s Broasted Chicken and Pizza in Emily.  He retired in 2014. Preceding Daryl in death are his parents; his son, David; one sister, Carol Proffit Dahl and one brother, Dennis Proffit. Daryl is survived by his partner, Mary Smith; his daughter, Teresa Proffit; his grandchildren, Richardo Quimiro and Jacob Gerado Vasquez-Proffit, Stacey (James) Hammer, Jennifer Balkcum and Oliver Balkcum; sister-in-law, Judith Proffit; as well as many nieces and nephews and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Log Cabin Bar in Emily from 1 to 3 p.m. Sharing of Memories will be at 2:30 p.m. with military honors presented by the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443.   In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.  Memorials will be going to those who have helped care for Daryl. Arrangements are with Koop Funeral Home, Crosby.
