Michael J. Gifford Obit

MICHAEL J. GIFFORD, 73, of Outing, passed away on June 11, 2025, at Essentia Health–St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth with loved ones by his side. Mike was born in 1952 in Pine City to Marjorie and William Gifford. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970. After his service, Mike spent decades on the road driving semi all over the country. He never needed a map or directions—he just knew the way. Mike was famously stubborn, with a tough exterior—but those who knew him best knew he had a heart of gold. Beneath the gruffness was a loyal, generous, and deeply loving man who would do anything for his family and friends. He loved hunting and fishing—especially for walleye—and spending time on the golf course. Whether it was early mornings in a deer stand or casting a line on the lake, Mike was always in his element. Preceding Mike in death are his parents, William Gifford and Marjorie Gifford Hastings (Anstett). Mike is survived by his wife, Linda Gifford; daughter, Michelle Larsen; grandchildren, Brittney, Taylor, and Sara Larsen; great-grandchildren, Ruby and Colson; siblings, Douglas (Patricia) Gifford, Gerald (Fay) Gifford, Judith (Les) Eggert, and Charles (Mary) Gifford; along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Mike was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can express. His memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love he shared with those lucky enough to know him. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Koop Funeral Home in Crosby, MN. A private burial will take place at a later date.
