SHEILA MARIE (THOMPSON) CARLSON of Deerwood died on Feb. 2, 2022.  She was born in Duluth on Dec. 28, 1962 to George and Marie June Thompson.  She grew up on the Lax Lake Road near Finland graduating from Silver Bay High School and completing her BSN from St. Scholastica, Duluth under the ROTC program. She was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and active reservist until her separation in 1999, retiring with rank of 1st Lieutenant.  She served the Crosby, Brainerd and Mille Lacs/Onamia medical community in several different Nursing Administration capacities.

WILLIAM EARL STIMAC,  76, of Garrison, died at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby on Jan. 11, 2022. He was born on July 17, 1945 in Crosby to Frank and Margaret (Frazer) Stimac. He was raised in Trommald. and attended school in Riverton until the eighth grade.  He graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School, then he earned an associate of arts degree at Brainerd Community College.   He graduated from Bemidji State College in 1967, earning a bachelor of science degree with an emphasis in secondary language arts education.  He  taught in the Northland Remer School District.

TODD GRUENDEMANN,  60, of Cuyuna, passed away Feb. 10, 2022 after battling  ALS.  Todd was born on June, 23 1961 in Springfield and grew up in Brainerd.   The majority of his life Todd lived in the Crosby area.   He was strong and courageous.  His kind soul will be sorely missed but his impact on all those he knew will live on. He loved his kids deeply and cherished his time with them. He unselfishly helped friends in need with commitment and grace. Cooking, camping, sports, music and outdoor activities where a part of his life he would generously share with family and friends.

Conrad Brant Peterson Obit

CONRAD BRANT PETERSON, 84 of San Tan Valley, AZ, passed away Jan. 14, 2022. He was formerly of Crosby. He was born Aug. 12, 1937 in Minneapolis to Glen and Delores Peterson. He was the previous owner of Gopher Tackle Mfg. in Cuyuna. He worked for IBM for 23 years after serving in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He married Janice Sigurdson on Jan. 20, 1962. This year would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. In the early '70s and '80s he fished bass tournaments around the country.

JOYCE MARIE FERRARI, 85, of Crosby, died on Feb. 2, 2022 at Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin.  She was born on March 11, 1936 in Crosby to Walter and Alice (Midthun) Heineman. She held a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth and in Nursing from the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth. Joyce was a former owner of the Crosby Bar, Dee J’s Floral in Crosby, Dee J’s clothing store in Crosby, the Cuyuna Lanes and the Snow Hut in Crosby.  She was a retired teacher in the Aitkin School District and a former Lab Tech at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.

Mary E. Sandbert Obit

MARY E. SANDBERG, 74, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia. Mary went peacefully home to Jesus, surrounded by her husband, children and sister. Mary was born in Brainerd on May 26, 1947. She grew up in the Crosby area, graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School and completed X-ray technician training in the Twin Cities.  Mary was a dedicated worker who had a varied career, including owning a resort, tying fishing lures and owning The Smoke Shop and Book Nook.

PAUL LuVERNE RICHARDS, 73, of Baxter died at Essentia St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd on Jan. 25, 2022. A service is being planned for a later date.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

LaVonne C. Pearson,  86, of Mora, passed away peacefully on Jan. 21, 2022 at Welia Hospital in Mora, with her husband by her side. She was born in Moose Lake to William and Lydia (Lampi) Ukura.  She lived in Lawler, IA, Chicago, IL and then Crosby. After graduating from Crosby-Ironton High School she worked as an officer at a bank in Crosby. She met Jerry Pearson and they married on Dec. 3, 1960. They lived in Fargo, ND where LaVonne worked in the loan department of a bank.  Before moving to Mora they resided in Duluth for a short time.

Clarence Vernon LaBorde obit

CLARENCE VERNON LaBORDE, 78, of Fairfield Township, passed away Jan. 25, 2022 in the arms of his loving wife Laurel whom he was married to for 57 years.  Surrounded by his daughter Nancy and three sons, Michael, David and Thomas.  Clarence lost his battle with the diseases he fought so hard to overcome. Clarence was born June 1, 1943 to Violet (Bennett) and William LaBorde in Fairfield Township. He graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School and Dunwoody Institute.  Clarence was raised in the home of his brother George and family and grew up next door to his life long friend Phil Rono.
