Benedict "Bennie" Trutwin Obit

BENEDICT "BENNIE" TRUTWIN, 88, of Fifty Lakes, passed away peacefully at home, on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022. He was born to Nicholas and Elizabeth Trutwin on Aug. 20, 1934, in Holdingford. In his early days, Bennie was a wheelsman on the Great Lakes for seven years, served in the Army Reserves, operated a Phillip’s gas station, and worked at Gold Metal Flour in Minneapolis. He was a highly respected and well-known appliance repairman in St Paul for most of his career.  He built a cabin in Voyager Village, WI, where he spent many years sharing the up-north experience with family and friends.

ETHEL V. KULLANDER MAKI, 100, died Dec. 28, 2022 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. A service is being planned for June of 2023.   Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

HAROLD "HAL" BORSHEIM, 92, of Aitkin,   formerly of Wheaton,  died  Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022 at Rivers Edge Assisted Living in Aitkin. He was born in Manitoba, Canada, on Sept.  15, 1930 to parents Eilert and Ellen (Riordan) Borsheim. He was the second youngest of ten children. His parents had a farm near Spirling, Manitoba and another in Wheaton where the family settled full-time. He attended school in Wheaton and college at Morris Ag. School. He was in the boxing club while attending Morris. He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Mary Arens. The two met in 4-H.

Robert "Bob" Carls Obit

ROBERT "BOB" CARLS, 82, Bay Lake, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Dec. 26, 2022. He was born July 3, 1940 to Robert A. and Ruth (Bundgaard) Carls in Minneapolis. A graduate of  Southwest High School in Minneapolis, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from the University of Oregon at Eugene. He was a full-time artisan working primarily in turned wood, and since 2000 he and his wife owned and operated Ripple River Gallery.

Terrance "Boots" Maring, Sr. Obit

TERRANCE "BOOTS" MARING, SR., 74, died Dec. 5, 2022 near Ottertail. He was a resident of Palisade. He was born April 9, 1948 in Fort Yates, ND to Ralph W. Maring and Helen (Kelly) Maring-Brown. He was first married to Helen Hasskamp and then Deb Himmelright. He and Deb had two children, Kelly and Terrance, Jr. At the age of two, he  moved to Palisade to be lovingly raised by Tex and Olga Bullis. They nick-named him Boots when, as a toddler, he refused to remove his cowboy boots.
