VIRGINIA LUELLA PLATISHA was born to Anna Marie Olson Karnowski and David Herman Karnowski in Crosby on Nov. 22, 1923. She died peacefully on Dec. 17, 2022 in Crosby with family holding her hand. Virginia was a 1941 graduate of Crosby-Ironton High School.  She attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. She married Eli Platisha on June 22, 1951 at the Deerwood Methodist Church with her uncle the Reverend Russell Olson officiating.

THOMAS JAMES RINGHAND, JR., 57, of Ironton, died on Dec. 8, 2022 in Seattle, WA from cardiac complications while attending his son Tucker’s National Cross Country Division II Championships.   He was born in Crosby on Oct. 28, 1965 to Thomas “Tuck” and Karen (Braff) Ringhand.  He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School, class of 1984.  He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bemidji State and his Master of Arts Degree from St. Cloud State University.  He was a Industrial Arts Educator serving the school districts of Bowbells, ND, Sommerset WI, Brainerd and Crosby-Ironton.

KENNETH PAUL SOLOM, 80, of Baxter, died on Saturday, Dec, 17, 2022 at 5:16 p.m. at the Lakeview Hospital in Two Harbors related to various complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. Preceding Kenneth in death by his beloved parents, Kenneth Mervin Solom and Ella Elizabeth (Treichel) Solom as well as his grandparents, one younger brother, Bruce Roger Solom, several aunts, uncles and one cousin Richard A. Solom.

David Gordon Lusian Obit

DAVID GORDON LUSIAN, 45, passed away on Sept. 1, 2022 at the Hospice House in Duluth.  David was born on June 22, 1977 in Minneapolis to Gordon and Martha (Hartkopf) Lusian.  He graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School, class of 1995.  He moved to Duluth in 1999 and later found a career in IT.  He worked for many years at Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth as a part of their IT support. Preceding David in death are his grandparents Tony and Katherine Lusian and Weiland and Avis Hartkopf.

Lester "Les" Gooman Obit

LESTER 'LES' GOODMAN, 100, of Emily,  entered into eternal life on Friday, Dec. 9, 2022 at the Fergus Falls Veteran Home. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Les served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946, making him a World War II veteran. Les and Lou owned the Log Cabin Bar in Emily  from 1965-1973. They loved serving their customers. Prior to moving to Emily, they lived in Stewart where he owned a poultry business. Les loved the outdoors, especially his cabin on Swift Lake. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

MARGARETTE "MUGS" E. BODLE, 88, of Emily, died on Nov. 25, 2022 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.  She was born to Emerald and Elizabeth (Ackmann) Frink on May 4, 1934 in Fairfield Township.   Mugs is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons, Marlen (Sandra) Bodle and Rory (LuAnne) Bodle all of Emily; two daughters, Robyn Monson of Hibbing and Melissa Boyer of Plymouth; one brother, Ronald Frink of Clovis, NM; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

JEFFREY SCOTT OLSEN, 65, of Irondale Township, on Dec. 6, 2022 lost his battle due to complications of pneumonia at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby but has declared victory and is now at peace with his Heavenly Father. Jeff was born in Brainerd on Dec. 13, 1956 to Fred and Esther (Cornish) Olsen. Jeff owned JSO Custom Construction and Kinney Realty. He was an outstanding man, a hard worker and a genuine friend to many. He will be greatly missed and would want to be remembered for his faith in the Lord and his positive outlook on life.

SHIRLEY ELIZABETH HARKER, 91, of Crosby, passed away on Dec. 6, 2022 at her home. She was born in Tioga, ND to James and Bessie Flynn. After they lost their farm during the depression they moved to Pine River. Shirley attended the Pine River schools, where she met the love of her life, James Harker.  The married shortly after high school and had two children. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood, loved to golf at Cuyuna Rolling Hills where she was a member for almost 60 years.

MARLYS MARIE DEHNING, 82, of Brainerd formerly of Deerwood, died at Edgewood Vista in Brainerd on Dec. 1, 2022. She was born to Walter and Rose (Specht) Petersen on Sept. 25, 1940 in Aitkin.  Marlys married James Dehning on Dec. 17, 1960 in Iron Hub. She was a retired Physical Therapy Assistant serving Cedarbrook Manor, Cuyuna Regional Medical Center and Woodland Good Samaritan. Marlys was an avid bowler with the Cuyuna Lanes League.

JOANN K. LUUKKONEN, 75, of Brainerd, passed away surrounded by her family on Dec. 1, 2022, after a 30-year long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was a strong, independent, and determined woman.  She was a role model, talented quilter, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Joann was born in New York Mills on July 5, 1947, to William and Hildegarde (Geiser) Haman. She was the eighth of 11 children.  She graduated high school from New York Mills and went on to college at Bemidji State University and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education.
