JOE PATRICK GHERITY, 53, of Brainerd, died on Aug. 1, 2022, at his home. He was born Oct. 4, 1968 in Ely to Beverly Ann Johnson and Joseph Patrick Gherity. He graduated from Como Park High School, he served in the Army for two years, graduated Welding School and Cordon Bleu Cooking School. He is preceded in death by his grandparents.

DAYNA JANE (HOPPE) RICHARDS, 58, left us all too soon. She passed away July 27, 2022 from Crohn's disease and liver failure. She was born Nov. 24, 1963 to Edwin “Dan” Hoppe and Colleen (Neutzling) Hoppe in St. Cloud.  She graduated from Crosby- Ironton High School in 1982 and shortly  after she spent 16 years in Florida, before moving back to Minnesota in 2001 after the passing of her mother. Some of her favorite things were gardening, camping, being on the water, (be it lake or ocean), watching wildlife and her beloved dogs and cats.

BENJAMIN RABA, 49, of St. Paul and former Deerwood resident died July 24, 2022. He was born Dec. 29, 1972 to Stephen and Lynn (Johnson) Raba. He spent the past 30 years self-employed with his father doing private lawncare and snow removal in the Twin Cities area. In his free time Ben enjoyed fishing, knife collecting, and cooking for friends and family. Ben will be remembered by how kind, compassionate, patient, and generous he was. He always put others before himself and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lynn Raba.

LORRAINE STURDEVANT,  97 of Crosslake, died on Aug. 3, 2022 at Essentia St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. She was born on Aug. 18, 1924 in Tipperary, IA to Augustine and Marie (LeVeque) Deshayes.  Lorraine married Delmar “Bert” Sturdevant on Oct. 11, 1945. She owned the Emily Hardware with her husband from 1948 to 1987, selling to their daughter Denise. She was most proud of her welding job on the ships in Washington during WWII. This is where she met Bert. She loved flower gardening, being outside, bowling and scrapbooking.

Hubert and Sharon Vassar Obits

Heaven gained two angels when Hubert Vassar, age 85, and Sharon (Mosher) Vassar, age 83, passed away at their home in Hopkins, Minnesota, on July 27, 2022. Hubert was born in Hopkins, on Feb. 22, 1937, to Philip and Genevieve (Krips) Vassar. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1955. Better known as Herb, he was a carpenter by trade and a proud union member throughout his career. He built their home in Hopkins in 1961, as well as the family cabin near Crosby. Herb was very active. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and ATV riding.
