PATRICK "PAT" SMITH, 73, of Deerwood, MN, passed away unexpectedly in his home on April 19, 2023. A celebration of life will be held at Cuyuna Rolling Hills Golf Course on Saturday, June 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a brief program at 5:30 p.m. with time for anyone to share stories of Pat. Food will also be served. In place of gifts or flowers, the family has started a memorial fund at the Jessie F. Hallett Memorial Library in Crosby. Donations can be made on-line at Give MN.org/PatSmith or sent to the Hallett Library at 101 1st St SE, Crosby, MN 56441.

PATRICIA "PAT" A. GENZ, 76, of Emily,   passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023 at Riverwood Hospital in Aitkin.   Pat was born June 20, 1946 in St. Paul to Anton and Elizabeth (Steichen) Fendrick.  She attended St. Stanislaus School in St. Paul until 1961 and then graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1963.  After high school she worked at St. Paul Companies until she met the future love of her life.  On Aug. 30, 1974, she married Gene Genz in St. Paul. They bought their first house in Crosby and moved to Emily in 1975, where they spent the remainder of their lives.

EUGENE "GENE" R. GENZ, 78, of Emily, passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2023 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.  Gene was born on Feb. 16, 1944 in Minneapolis, to Alfred and Mabelle (Peterson) Genz and he was the eldest of six children.  The family moved to Milaca where Gene graduated at the top of his class.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1972.   On Aug. 30, 1974, he married Patricia “Pat” Fendrick in St. Paul. They bought their first house in Crosby and moved to Emily in 1975, where they spent the remainder of his life.

JEROME DONALD NOVAK, 83, of Fifty Lakes, died on May 30, 2023 at his home.  He was born on March 24, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Jerome and Catherine (Vodrazka) Novak.  He was a retired electrical engineer with AT&T in the Chicago area. Preceding him in death are his parents and his wife Anita Novak. He is survived by two sons, Donald Novak and Jerry Novak of Fifty Lakes; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David Keal of Austin, TX and Laura and Quin Filipowicz of Downers Grove, IL; one sister, Elaine Guetter of Irwin, IL; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

MARIANNE JOY BURGSTALER died Feb. 16, 2023 at her home in Helendale, CA. Marianne was born April 22, 1936 in Artesia, CA to Leona and Merrill Joy.  Marianne spent her early years in South Los Angeles County and  Artesia, CA.  In her teenage years she helped pick berries at the Knotts Berry Farm fields  and worked at the Knotts Berry Farm Restaurant. Marianne attended Ana-heim Union High School and graduated in 1954.   Marianne married Wayne Jarvis in 1958, and lived in Santa Ana, CA.  They had four children, Michael, Julie, Gary and Scott.
