DONALD STANGEL, 58, of Emily, passed away Sept. 4, 2025, at home after fighting with cancer. He was born on April 19, 1967 in Crosby to Rick and MaryEtta Stangel. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School. He was a carpenter by trade and good at it. He also loved to hunt, fish and camp. He was not afraid to jump in and help anyone who needed help—especially working on cars. He is survived by his mother, MaryEtta and brother Barry, his partner Nicky Price and their three children, Heidi, Harley and Halana. Preceding him in death are his father, Rick, and his sister Tresa.

JOHN E. MUMM, 78, died Sept. 7, 2025, at The Sanctuary in St. Cloud. He was born Feb. 26, 1947, to Joseph and Margaret (Kallas) Mumm in Bertha. He married Darlene Meyer on Sept. 13, 2003. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Staples High School. He served in the United States Army  as an E3 Field Radio Mechanic. He was employed with FML, Scorpion and managed several turkey farms. His most fulfilling joy was delivering meals to the eldery. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

JOHN ROY PAPENFUSS, 79, of Ironton, passed away at his home on Aug. 31, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born in Stillwater on Aug. 6, 1946 to Roy and Fayra (Evermann) Papenfuss.  John married Mary Kay Anderson on Dec. 30, 1967 in Stillwater. John graduated from the Stillwater High School, Class of 1964.  He was U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1964 to 1967. In 1968 he enrolled in the lineman program at Wadena Tech.  He was a lineman for 35 years with Minnesota Power, Crosby Branch.   He was a retired member of the Ironton Fire Department and a member of IBEW Local 31.

FLORENTINA "GINA" BROWN, 76, of Baxter, passed away on Sept. 1, 2025 at the Bethany Good Samaritan in Brainerd. She was born in Bato Leyte, Philippines on June 24, 1949 to Nicolas and Arsenia (Latto) Lastra. Gina was united in marriage to Michael Brown on Nov. 8, 1969. Gina is survived by her husband Michael; two sons, Lincoln Brown of Moose Lake and Bryan (Amber) Brown of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Helen (Gilberto Davila) Brown of Boerne, TX and Susan Brown of Ft. Meyers, FL; five grandchildren, Coco Spartz, Bethany McIntosh, Isabelle Brown, Jackson Brown and Elijah Davila.

BESS MARIE MAHLE, 89, of Baxter, passed away on Aug. 21, 2025. Shewas born on Jan. 14, 1936, in Portland, OR, to Lawrence and Helen (Rischmille) Burns. From a young age, she understood the value of hard work, spending many years as a general laborer and always lending a hand to anyone in need. A devoted mother and grandmother, she raised five children. She found joy in simple pleasures, especially reading, tending to flowers and cherishing time with her family and friends.

JOY V. CASE, 94, of Crosby, passed away on Aug. 22, 2025, in Crosby. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday Sept. 4, at noon at the Halvorson Taylor Funeral Home in Brainerd. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd.

CLARENCE "ANDY" ANDERSON, 88, of Fifty Lakes, passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 21, 2025. He was born in La Crosse, WI, on March 7, 1937 to Clarence and Gertrude Anderson. He grew up in Caledonia. After completing 8th grade, he left home for South Dakota and worked on a ranch until 1955 when he voluntarily joined the U.S. Army. He spent two years stationed in Germany, where he worked as a Master Driver in the 606 Ordnance Ammunition Company. Upon returning from the military he began a long career as an over-the-road truck driver.

HAROLD "PANCHO" PETER ZEITLER, age 78, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2025 in Crosby, N, after a strong 3-year fight against cancer.  His loving wife of 53 years, Connie, was at his side. He was born in Oconto Falls, WI, to Isabel June Ankerson and George Joseph Zeitler, and grew up on a dairy farm near Green Bay. He graduated from Gillett High School in 1964. After attending the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for two years, he enlisted in the Navy Submarine Service and served in the Atlantic for four years on a Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) submarine, the USS Henry L.
