RAYMOND LASHER, 80, of Garrison, died Nov. 27, 2023. He was born on Jan. 12, 1943, to Kenneth and Shirley (Scott) Lasher in Anticoch, CA. He served in the Navy from 1961-1965 and served two terms in Vietnam. He was very proud of his 30-plus years of sobriety. He enjoyed helping others on their sobriety journey throughout the years as well. He worked for 31 years as a taxidermist and was a commander at the Garrison VFW. He had a love for riding motorcycles, hunting, and fishing. He will be remembered by all for his kindness and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

ROSE ANNE STIMAC, 80, of Brainerd, formerly of Ironton, died on Dec. 2 at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.  She was born on July 24, 1943 in Gouverneur, NY to Edward and Muriel (Hance) Barto.

LENORE C. McBROOM, 90, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023 at Golden Horizons of Crosslake. She was born on Jan. 29, 1933 in Bradford Township to Olof and Esther (Lundeen) Peterson. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1950. She trained to be a Key Punch Operator and worked for the Green Giant Corporation in Le Sueur. On April 25, 1952, she was married to Chester McBroom at her childhood church, Long Lake Lutheran, in Bradford Township. While raising a family, she also worked as a school bus driver and then as a kitchen cook for the Princeton School District until her retirement.

MARY ELIZABETH (HUNTER) SPETZMAN of Lindstrom, MN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Nov. 25, 2023. She was born on Jan. 28, 1956 in Monticello, MN and grew up in Ironton, Minnesota. Mary proudly spoke about growing up in the community near the Cuyuna Iron Range. She graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in 1974. Mary continued her education at multiple colleges and universities with focus on religious and wildlife studies.  Mary married the love of her life Jerome (Jerry) Spetzman on Oct. 14, 1995.

EDITH 'EDIE" LaVERNE BEAL, 90, of Baxter, formerly of Crosby, died at Essentia St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd on Nov. 20, 2023.  She was born in Iron Hub on Sept. 19, 1933 to John and Edna (Rider) Wolford.   She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Iron Hub, founding member and past president of the Crosby Lioness, active with both the Crosby and Aitkin Chambers of Commerce, worked with her mother at Edna’s Ladies Apparel in Crosby and was a long-time employee of the Crosby and Aitkin Ben Franklin stores.

Charles "Chuck" Thomas Hartung Obit

Charles (Chuck) Thomas Hartung, 79, passed away peacefully on Nov. 16, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic in Pheonix, AZ, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Crosby on March 3, 1944, to Willis and Helen (Wassen) Hartung. He was a 1962 graduate of Crosby Ironton High School. In June of 1962 he received a letter asking him to join the Army. Basic training at Fort Leonard Wood “was such a treat.”  If you ever asked him how long he served he would respond, “5 years, 5 months and 28 days.”  He was stationed in Anchorage, AK, for two years and then returned state side.

GENEVA J. MOLLENHAUER, 96, of Crosby, died on Nov. 18, 2023 at Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.
A service is being planned for Dec. 16, 2023.  Full obit will follow.

LANA POMMER-HELMKE, 82, of St. Louis Park, died Nov. 10, 2023, following a bout with pancreatic cancer.
She was born June 13, 1941 in South Dakota. She attended 12 years of school in Castlewood, SD and also attended the Nettleton School of Business and Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD.
