PHYLIS IONE GIFFIN, 93 of Crosby, died at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby on April 10, 2022. Funeral services are being planned for Friday, April 22. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

EDWARD JAMES BARTO, 79, died on April 5, 2022 in Wahpeton, ND. He was born on Sept. 4, 1942 to Edward and Muriel (Hance) Barto in Gouverneur, NY.  As a child, he relocated with his family to Deerwood where he grew up, held his first job as a paperboy and enjoyed many adventures with his four siblings.  He started his career working alongside his father, uncle, and aunt on the pipeline in Ketchikan, AK where he held fond memories of the time he spent enjoying the beautiful countryside and growing close with his dad.

DENNIS "DENNY" M. KOVATOVICH, 82, died at Parker Adventist Hospital with family members at his side on March 28, 2022, following a pick-up truck accident. He lived a full and wonderful life, bringing joy and prosperity to all who knew him. Born on Dec. 16, 1939 in Crosby, he was the first of nine children of Mathew and Gladyce (Vogel) Kovatovich. In 1965 he married Jean Karen Halverson of Deerwood. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in 1958 and later received his MA Degree in architecture from the University of Minnesota in 1967.

KERRY MARTA McCOLLISTER, 36, died at her home in Deerwood on Saturday Jan. 15, 2022, surrounded by her family who loved her. She had battled alcoholism and an eating disorder for years. Kerry was preceded in death by her grandparents. She is survived and missed by her parents Howard and Sally McCollister, brother Jess very special niece DeeDra, AKA Deedles, and her surrogate sister Jennifer Peterson.  She also leaves behind her adoring cats Bastian and Nox.

JOHN AUSTIN WILLIAMS, 88, of Outing, died on Oct. 9, 2021 at his home.  He was born in Richmond to George and Mabel (Rodgers) Williams.  He was a U.S. Army veteran. John married Annie “Nancy” McGarry in Minneapolis on Aug. 11, 1955.  He retired to Outing in 1992. Preceding John in death are his parents; his wife Annie “Nancy” and one son, William; five brothers, Buddy, Ray, Frank, Jim and Jerry Williams; and one sister, Monica Hirdler.

ANGELO OLAF VANG, 5, of Maple Grove passed away March 28 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester from pediatric pulmonary hypertension. Angelo was born on July 23, 2016 at 23 weeks weighing 15 ounces. He spent the first 18 months of his life under the loving care of the M Health Children's Hospital before adoption. With an infectious smile and a contagious laugh, Angelo brought joy to everyone he met. He loved Disney movies, Sonic the Hedgehog, music, books and Bowser. Hours before his passing, he defeated Bowser one last time on his Nintendo Switch.
