BONNIE JEAN SORENSON was born Sept. 16, 1946 to Linus and Orvilla Sorenson and died Jan. 23, 2023, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Although she was born in a Grand Forks, ND hospital, she grew up in East Grand Forks. She was an accomplished athlete but there were no high school sports for girls at that time so she  was unable to compete in team sports. Even so, she  remained active in her teen years playing baseball and hockey—often with boys.

GERALD DAVID SANDERSON, 85, of Baxter, formerly of Crosby, died on Feb. 26, 2023 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter.  He was born on Feb. 21, 1938 to David and Irene (Lound) Sanderson.  He married Donna Hofmann on Dec. 27, 1959 in Crosby.  He was a retired Potlatch employee with 31 years of service and a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood. Preceding him in death are his parents; one grandson and one brother, Dennis Sanderson.

Donald D. Kaffine Obit

DONALD D. KAFFINE, 90, of Bemidji, formerly of Deerwood, passed away on Feb. 11, 2023 after a long battle with dementia. Donald was born on Jan. 2, 1933 in Montreal, WI to Carl Kaffine and Rose (Mezzano) Kaffine. He graduated from Hurley High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years. Donald then attended Michigan Technical college in Houghton, MI. He graduated in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. He married Geraldine Zinzarella in 1960. He worked in Minneapolis at Control Data and Siemens Company until his retirement in 1997.

Wilma "Mina" Mae Nystrom Obit

WILMINA "MINA" MAE NYSTROM, 94, of Crosby, passed away on Feb. 11, 2023.  Mina was born Oct. 16, 1928 in Mora to Luella (Kreisel) and Irl Hoffman.  She lived on a farm until the age of seven but her father died and she moved into the town of Mora with her mother and two younger sisters.   She grew up rather poor with no indoor plumbing but her mother always found a way to make ends meet by renting rooms and maintaining a large garden.

PATRICIA SAXUM, age 89 of Baxter, formerly of Bay Lake died on Feb.15, 2023, at her home. A service is being planned for April 13, 2023.   Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

Robert "Bob" Beard Obit

ROBERT "BOB" BEARD,  88, passed away on Feb. 13, 2023, after living 10 years with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on July 10, 1935, in White Bear Lake, MN to Kay and Lovatt Beard. He was raised in St. Paul and graduated from Murray High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served as an office clerk in Fort Smith, AK. After serving in the Army, he attended Minneapolis School of Business. On Aug. 4, 1956, Bob married his high school sweetheart Rita (Pedersen) Beard. They were married for 66 wonderful years.

Jack Lysne Obit

JOHN P. "JACK" LYSNE JR., 79, of Outing, died at his home on Feb. 8, 2023.  He was born in Northfield on Dec. 30, 1943 to John and Jane (McGuire) Lysne.   He graduated from the White Bear High School, class of 1961. John has been a millwright with Local 548 for 48 years, retired for 22 of those years in Outing.  He was employed with Lovegreen Industrial Services and subcontracted to work at 3M plants all over the United States during that time.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting and had many trips over the years. He loved watching the deer and birds at his Lawrence Lake home.

In memory of “Woody,” Jerry Dwain Wood of Emily, a short service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. followed by an open house luncheon. The doors of the Emily Wesleyan Church will open at 10 a.m. Camouflauge, C-I Ranger attire and denium are welcome.
