Children to receive additional SNAP benefits

To ensure 350,000 Minnesota school children who qualify for the federal free and reduced-price meal program have access to healthy food, the Minnesota Department of Human Services, in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Education and Code for America, recently launched the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer, also referred to as P-EBT, benefit.

The Cuyuna Range Food Shelf is open the second and third Wednesdays of the month from 7 to 9:30 a.m. and by appointment in an emergency. The food shelf is located at 302 Cross Avenue North in Crosby.

Rabbit Lake Parade of Boats on July 4

The Rabbit, Clunker, Cuyuna, Carlson Lakes Association (RCCCLA) will host a parade of boats on Saturday, July 4. You are to meet at the boat landing on East Rabbit Lake (between East and West Rabbit Lakes) at 2 p.m. or join in when it is convenient. The route will be East Rabbit Lake going clockwise and then West Rabbit Lake going clockwise.

Jeans for a Cause at Unity Bank

Unity Bank in Crosby is raising money for local non-profit organizations. “Jeans for a Cause” is a fund that collects $2 from Unity Bank employees who are allowed to wear jeans to work on Fridays. Matching funds are made at Unity Bank’s discretion.
The designated organization chosen for this quarter (ending June 30) is the Jessie F. Hallett Memorial Library in Crosby. How can you help? The community is welcome to make a donation in the “Jeans for a Cause” donation box located in the drive-up window at Unity Bank.

Wave Parade at CRMC's Care Center June 30

Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Care Center in Crosby is hosting a Wave Parade for residents on Tuesday, June 30 beginning at 2 p.m.
Family, friends and loved ones of Care Center residents are invited for a vehicle parade through the parking lot to spread some cheer for residents.

Spalding's Annual Street Dance July 3

A street dance will be held on Friday, July 3 at the Spalding located at One West Main Street in Crosby.
Enjoy live music with “Kings Ransom” from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. A $10 cover charge  for all attending as only 250 are allowed to attend the event this year due to COVID-19 guidelines. You must be 21 and older to attend the street dance.

Summerfest plans undecided

To date no decision has been made to cancel the 33rd Annual Deerwood Summerfest.  However, we are concerned for everyone’s health and safety.  We are hoping for positive changes in the next few weeks and will make sure to keep you updated.  Fingers crossed!
Deerwood Summerfest is a family friendly two-day community event designed to celebrate Deerwood and offer fun activities, terrific food, arts/crafts, and many activities for kids.
Deerwood Civic and Commerce's annual Deerwood Summerfest is fun for all ages! There are many events, vendors, and yummy food!!

Lunch Bunch offeres lunch for area youth

Nutritious lunches will be available to area youth again this summer through the Cuyuna Lakes Lunch Bunch, a free program organized by area churches and Cuyuna Regional Medical Center.
The lunches are available on weekdays starting Thursday, May 28, through Friday, Sept. 4.  They will be at the following locations:  
—11:15 to 11:35 a.m. in Ironton at Grandpa’s Park;
—11:45 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. at Crosby Food Shelf, 302 Cross Ave.; and
—12:15 to 12:35 p.m. in Deerwood at Veteran’s Park across from the Derwood American Legion.
