Outing Chamber brings meat raffles, bingo back

The Outing Area Chamber of Commerce will be running meat raffles at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Wednesdays at the Log Cabin Bar in Emily. Bingo will follow the meat raffle on Wednesdays and video racing will be held during the meat raffle.
The Pickled Loon’s meat raffle is Tuesdays at 5 p.m. with bingo following the raffle and video racing is held during the meat raffle.
The Village Inn in Outing will start its meat raffles on Monday, June 22. Meat raffles are held at 5 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays with bingo following the meat raffle on Thursdays.

Crow Wing County’s annual photo contest

Join photographers of all ages and abilities to find pollinators on native plants in the Brainerd Lakes Area.  2020 Crow Wing SWCD Photo Contest focuses on pollinators and native plants. Try to find Minnesota’s new state bee: The Rusty Patched bumblebee, is an endangered species that you might be able to see in your own backyard.
According to Beth Hippert, District Technician “This is a great opportunity for people to discover, explore, and learn about native plants that grow around the Brainerd Lakes Area and photograph the progression of plants and trees from spring to fall.”

MCPA says Mississippi good but could be better

According to new draft reports released by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), the Mississippi River – Brainerd Area Watershed (MRBW) has a mix of good water quality that needs protecting, and also lakes and streams that have degraded and are in need of improvement.

Virtual Music in the Park June 25

Over the past 13 years, Music in the Park has been a much-anticipated event to kickoff summertime in the Cuyuna Lakes area with great music, food and activities for people of all ages to enjoy. Due to unforeseen challenges related to COVID19, the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber is unable to hold the in-person event at Crosby Memorial Park on Serpent Lake this year. That is why it is adapting to hold the event virtually in 2020, so the Music in the Park audience can still enjoy a high-quality, local musical experience from the safety of their electronic device.

Serpent Lake Boat Parade July 4

The Serpent Lake Association Annual 4th of July Boat Parade will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. Bring your decorated (or undecorated) boat to the city of Crosby Fishing Pier at 3:45 p.m. for judging and photos.  
Please practice the appropriate social distancing measures and water safety that you have been doing during this time of the Corona Virus environment as you enjoy boating on Serpent Lake.  
The boats will go counter-clockwise around the lake at a speed which should take an hour.
The prize for first place will be the coveted “Traveling Paddle.”

No recycling in Crosby; county has options

The Paul M. Thiede Fire Tower Park is open

On Friday, June 12, the county officially opened the gate allowing access to the historic fire tower in Pequot Lakes. The tower is named after former County Commissioner Paul M. Thiede for his vision and leadership in protecting the tower. The park will be open sunrise to sunset, seven days a week.

State Representative Dale Lueck (R-Aitkin) is asking area residents to watch for identity theft related to unemployment insurance and report suspicious activities to local law enforcement.
“My colleagues and I have received reports from constituents who are concerned about fraudulent activities and suspect their personal information may have been compromised,” Lueck said. “The scammers are clearly busy using both the internet and U.S. mail to attempt to steal your identity and get into your financial accounts.”
