Name Deerwood's deer contest

Every year, the Deerwood Deer is dressed up in different apparel to go with the changes in season.  You will see the Deer sporting his Blaze Orange during hunting season, a red nose and santa hat during Christmas, and even now the Deer is doing its part to stop the spread of the corona virus and wearing a face mask. But the deer does not have a name, and that is about to change.

Crosby anneses land; fixes library roof

In what is becoming more and more frequent, the Crosby City Council met in a “pop-up” council meeting Friday morning, July 17. Present were Mayor Bob Novak and council members Robyn Wolfe, Ron Prushek and Diane Cash. There were only two items on the agenda.

ATV crash injures Nebraska family

Sheriff Scott Goddard reports on Friday, July 24,  at 9:54 a.m., Crow Wing County Dispatch received a call of an ATV crash with injuries occurring on a trail through a forest area east of Minnesota State Hwy 6, south of Outing.
The vehicle was a four-seat, side-by-side model carrying a driver and three passengers. The driver, a 46-year-old male from Omaha, NE, struck a tree off of the trail. The front passenger was a 46-year old female, and the rear seats were occupied by a 9-year-old male and an 11-year-old female, all from Omaha, NE.

Meet the candidates who have filed for Crow Wing County Commissioner, Fifth District. Moderator Tom Martin of R & J Broadcasting will interview each of the candidates—Doug Houge, Tom Nixon and Michael Starry on Thursday, July 30 from 8 to 9 a.m. in the Mayberry Auditorium at Crosby-Ironton High School. Masks are required.
Complimentary coffee and doughnuts provided by Mixed Company—A Kava House and SuperOne.
This event is free and open to the public. Cuyuna Lakes Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters, Brainerd Lakes Area State Unit organized the event.

Garrison bank robbed at gun point

On Friday, July 24 at 8:43 a.m., the Crow Wing County Sheriffs Office received a report of an armed robbery in progress at the Deerwood Bank, Garrison Branch.
The lone suspect is described as a white male, with grey to white hair wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and a hat. The suspect is believed to have been picked up by another individual driving a white sedan-type vehicle. The vehicle was last seen headed south of Garrison on Hwy 169.
The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and is believed to be armed.

Crosby Motor Vehicle open with guidelines

You can transfer vehicle titles, get your license tabs, and license your snowmobile, ATV, boat and trailers at the Crosby Motor Vehicle Office located 1/2 block off Main Street at the corner of Cross Avenue South and First Street SE in Crosby at 1 First Street SE. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (excluding holidays).
For driver's license services, you need to go to a full driver's license station, such as Brainerd or Aitkin.

Aitkin/Crow Wing County County Council Meeting of the American Legion

The Aitkin/Crow Wing County Council Meeting of the American legion will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 27 at the Myrin-James  American Legion Post 443 in Ironton.
 All members of the American Legion are encouraged to attend.
Discussions will include upcoming events, Post happenings and other pertinent information regarding the American Legion.

Conservation Club to meet Aug. 3

Fireworks on Bay Lake Saturday, July 4

Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge announces fireworks will be shot off at dusk on Saturday, July 4 from an undisclosed, mid-lake location, not from the shoreline at Ruttger’s. In order to comply with the state’s COVID-19 restrictions and reduce the number of on-shore attendees, the public will not be allowed to view the show from the grounds at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge. However, there will be places to watch the show from vehicles throughout the area surrounding the north end of Bay Lake.
