VERNON WALTER WENGEL, 95, of Little Falls and formerly of Crosby, passed away Feb. 13, 2025. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Wengel, father, Alfred Wengel, 10 siblings, a step-daughter, Kathy Baumgartner, a  son Lenny Wengel and a daughter, Sandra Wengel. He is survived by his brother Paul; son, Terry (Sherry) Wengel, daughter, Kim (Mike) Mathews; multiple nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other family members and friends. A Celebration of Life has been held. Interment was held at Camp Ripley in Little Falls.

Ronald Simon Saba Obit

RONALD "RON" SIMON SABA, 90, of Warba formerly of Outing, passed away at his home  on March 14, 2025. He was born on Feb. 7, 1935 in St. Paul to Wolf and Sophia (George) Saba.  He was united in marriage to Marlene Langevin in St. Paul on Sept. 3, 1955. He was a retired employee of Gillette Corporation in St. Paul.  After moving to the Outing area, he became a rural mail carrier for the USPS, servicing the Outing/ Remer area for 20 years.  He was a member of St. Emily’s Catholic Church in Emily.

GRACE SCHULLER, 90, of Outing, passed away on March 9, 20025 at her home. A spring service is being planned. A full obit will follow. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

HERBERT "HERB" LAYTON PESKE, 83, of Ironton, passed away on Feb. 18, 2025 at his home. He was born on Sept. 19, 1941 in Waterloo, IA to August and Helen (Britzman) Peske. He farmed for many years in Raymond, IA; was a former owner of the Seguchie Resort on Mille Lacs Lake and was a long-time employee of Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife Patricia and one brother, Alfred Peske. He is survived by one sister, Carol Smith of Cedar Falls, IA. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 23 at the Bible Baptist Church in Crosby.

SHIRLEY ANN DAVIES, 89, of Crosby, passed away on March 4, 2025 at the Heartwood Care Center in Crosby. She was born on June 22, 1935 in Crosby to William and Louise (Kant) Meacham.  Shirley was united in marriage with John Davies in Aitkin on Feb.19, 1953. Shirley loved family gatherings, cooking, playing cards, fishing and traveling.  John and Shirley spent their winters in Tucson, AZ, for 32 years.

RICHARD E. CURREN, 57, of Oakdale, passed away March 5, 2025. He was born to Dr. E.T. Curren and Lois (Copp) Curren in Crosby on April 17, 1967. He graduated in 1985 from Crosby-Ironton High School. He managed bowling alleys and worked as an auto mechanic. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda J. Lee.

LORETTA MAE DeBORD, 88, of Crosby, passed away on Feb. 26, 2025 at the Heartwood Care Center in Crosby. She was born on Oct. 5, 1936 in Eau Claire, WI to Marshall and Laura (Barrett) Howe. She was united in marriage to Clifford DeBord, Sr. on Dec. 1, 1962 in Rapid City, SD.   She is survived by one son, Clifford DeBord Jr. of Hackensack; three daughters, Dorothy Roberts of Brainerd, Laurisa (Rob) Grossman of Fargo, ND and Virginia (Ryan) Blumsted of Pequot Lakes; one sister, Rebecca Rouse of Ruthven, IA; 16 grandchild, 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren.

JAMES L. BARTEL, 64, of Crosby, passed away peacefully on Feb. 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a cherished brother, uncle, and friend. He was a dedicated truck driver who loved nice cars and jacked up trucks. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and always finding joy in the great outdoors. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, James “J.J.” Bartel, Jr; his parents, Richard and Myrtle (Haffner) Bartel; siblings, Angie Bodeker, Joyce Bartel, Dick Bartel and Bobby Bartel.

MICHAEL DENNIS LATTERY, SR., received his final orders. He passed away peacefully at home in Crosby, MN, on Feb. 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. After being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in Feb. 2023, he faced it with the same grit, stubbornness, and inappropriate jokes that got him through everything else in life. Mike was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and often reminded people that he was once young, strong, and fearless—just not at the same time.

ROY "ROB" ABBOTT, 67, of Ironton, passed away on Jan. 15, 2025 at Carefree Living in Brainerd. He was born in Crosby on March 11, 1957 to Roy and Vivian Abbott. Rob is survived by his wife, Kristi Abbott; his son, Justin (Kelsie) Abbott; his daughter, Trisha Abbott; and his grandchildren, Dylan, Alyssa, Braydon and Elyjah Abbott; and two sisters, Penny (Louie) Valiquet and Jane “Bubbles” Manske. Preceding Rob in death are his parents; and sister LaVonne McCalvy. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 11 at the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443 in Ironton from 1 to 4 p.m.
