BETTY AGNES OSTROWSKI, 87, of Ironton, passed away on March 24, 2024 in Deerwood from cancer. She was born in Westmore, MT on Jan. 25, 1937 to Fred and Mary (Aidt) Oswald.  For many years Betty was an expert seamstress and house cleaner. Betty is survived by three sons, Joseph (Lori) Ostrowski of Ironton, Wayne (Carla) Ostrowski of Deerwood and Mark (Kathy) Ostrowski of Deerwood; one daughter, Karin (Tony) Nelson of Deerwood; daughter-in-law, Lori Ostrowski of Brainerd; one brother, Howard Oswald of Baxter; one sister, Kathy Emery of Farmington; 20 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren.

Allen Douglas Miles Obit

ALLEN DOUGLAS MILES, 72, of Aitkin, formerly of Crosby, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at his home. He was born Aug. 31, 1951 in Crosby to Charles and Clarice (Judge) Miles.  Allen was united in marriage to Sharon Ford on Nov. 24, 1973 in Reno, NV.  Allen was a very talented stone mason who built many fireplaces for 40 years with his best friend, Bob Tuthill.  Prior to being a stone mason, Allen worked at Scorpion and Woodland Container. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, forestry/logging and traveling with Sharon to the North Shore and Acapulco. Allen’s passion, however was jet skiing.

ANTOINETTE "TONI" MARGARET NANIK, 99, of Crosby, died on March 22, 2024 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.  She was born in Crosby on Dec. 13, 1924 to Anton and Mary (Zvokel) Deblock. She graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School class of 1942.  She moved to San Diego, CA in 1954, retiring to Show Low, AZ in 1989 and then returned to Crosby in 2005. She is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Crosby. She is preceded in death by her husband Gordon and a sister, Mary Belt. A prayer service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 4 at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

MARJORIE LOUISE MEYER, 83, of Deerwood, passed away on March 17, 2024 at her home.   She was born in Rochelle, IL on April 10, 1940 to William and Marian (Taylor) Fogle.  Marjorie married Robert Meyer on June 21, 1958 in Aitkin.  She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Iron Hub. Preceding Marjorie in death are her parents and one brother, Francis Fogle.

Diann M. Bates Celebration of Life

DIANN M. BATES,  74, passed peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 6, 2024. She was the wife of Carl Bates. They shared 52 years of marriage. Born in Forest Lake,  she was the daughter of William O. Pigman and Evelyn Flora (Guertin) Pigman. She graduated from White Bear High School and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked at several locations including Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Crosby. Diann also received credits toward a medical transcriber degree. Diann was a member of the Patriot Guard for many years.

Steven Gary Crist Obit

STEVEN GARY CRIST, 67, of Ironton, passed away on March 16, 2024.  He was born on June 13, 1956 in St. Paul to Chester and Marion (Mullikin) Crist.  For many years Steven owned and operated Steve’s Painting in Ironton. Preceding Steven in death are his parents and two sons, Shawn Crist and Jeremy Crist.

Nancy Beth Schmidt Obit

NANCY BETH SCHMIDT, 81, of Deerwood, formerly from Crystal, passed away Feb. 13, 2024 at Heartwood Memory Care in Crosby.   She was the daughter of Clifford and Vivian (Gunderson) James, born on May 5, 1942 in Roseau. She graduated from North High School in Minneapolis in 1960. On March 25, 1961 she was united in marriage to Gordon Schmidt. They lived in Crystal where she worked at Lifetouch, formerly National School Studios, as a picture packager for 31 years until she retired. They moved to Serpent Lake in 2000 and spent their winters in Gold Canyon, AZ.
