BERNITA B. HARRISON, 89, of Crosby, passed away on July 20, 2025 at the Heartwood Care Center in Crosby. She was born on March 21, 1936 in LaPorte to Everett and Rozetta Palm. Bernita was united in marriage with the love of her life, Danny Harrison on June 7, 1953 in Crosby. Bernita was a retired secretary from the Crosby-Ironton High School with 35 years of service. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby; was a retired member of the Crosby Fire Department Auxiliary; a volunteer with Kinship Partners, R.S.V.P.

CARROLL ANN KUKOWSKI, 83 was born on July 15, 1941 in Southampton, NY, to Charles and Elmira (Lagasse) McGarrahan. She graduated from Rolla High School in Rolla, ND, where her family had moved. She studied business and education at Minot State Teachers College. Carroll met and married her husband of 63 years, Adolph Kukowski, on Dec. 30, 1961 in Rolla, ND. The couple had 5 children; and eventually many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that brought so much joy to her life. Carroll and Adolph were married and moved to Fort Polk, Louisiana when Adolph got called back to the army.

JOSEPH PATRICK SIMONS passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025 surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and fierce devotion to those he cared about. Joe was born May 12, 1942, in La Crosse, WI to Lucia Picha Simons and Francis Simons. Joe spent his early years in Lake City before moving to Brainerd, MN, where he graduated from Brainerd High School in 1960. Joe treasured his summers, especially the 67 he spent at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge in Deerwood, a place that always felt like his second home.

MALCOLM DAVID KARNOWSKI, 98, of Southview Acres, W St. Paul and formerly of Deerwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in West St. Paul, surrounded by loved ones. Malcolm was born on May 8, 1927, in Crosby, to Anna Marie (Olson) Karnowski and David Herman Karnowski. He was raised in Deerwood and graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School.  In 1957, Malcolm married Ramona Lind, whom he met while they were both working at Honeywell in Minneapolis.

TAARA LYNN (HOUDE) MACK passed quietly and peacefully knowing her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, July 16, 2025. She was born on Aug. 16, 1968, to Lynda Olander Houde and Gary Houde. She attended Crosby Elementary, Whittier Elementary and Franklin Jr High before graduating from Brainerd High School. In June 1986. She then attended Central Lakes Collage before enlisting in the US Navy, Sept. 11, 1987 and served four years as a Jet Mechanic where she unfortunately was brain injured, however completed her tour and was Honorably discharged Sept. 10, 1991. She met the love of her life Michael J.

Phillip James Tichenor Obit

PHILLIP JAMES TICHENOR passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 12, 2025 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital following a stroke suffered on March 7 while living at the Heartwood Senior Living Center in Crosby. He was born on July 31, 1931, in Sparta WI, the son of Victor and Esther (Wegner) Tichenor. He grew up on a small farm near Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1947.

ILENE J. MOORE, 83, of Baxter, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at her home. She was born to Edwin and Katherine Vogel on Feb. 3, 1942. Ilean was born and raised in Farnhamville, IA. In 1962, Ilean married her high school sweetheart, Darold Moore. Together they had three daughters, Kari, Heidi, and Kristina (Kris). In 1972 Darold and Ilean settled in the Brainerd Lakes area to raise their three girls.  In 2007, she retired from InFisherman where she had worked for 25 years.

ROGER B. BURGSTALER, 57, of Larkspur, CO, passed away on July 4, 2025 unexpectedly. He was born in Crosby on Sept. 14, 1967 to Peter and Marion (Warner) Burgstaler.   He graduated from the Aitkin High School, class of 1986. He loved being in the outdoors.  He loved to hunt, fish and ride snowmobile and motorcycles. He was very proud of his ability to use a hand gun. ANGIE (CHURCHILL) TOVEN, 46, passed away June 26, 2025 at her home. She was born Jan. 24, 1979 to Loyd and Karen (Price) Churchill in Crosby. She is preceeded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two sons, John and Phillip Toven, four sisters, Amber (Luke) Rosecrans, Crosby; Ahsley Churchill, Cocoa, FL; Alyssa (Justin) Grecula, Brainerd and Ariana (Westly) Juaire, Brainerd. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at the Cuyuna Lakes Community Church in Crosby.

John Steven Ravnik Obit

JOHN STEVEN RAVNIK, 75 of Prescott, AZ, passed away Oct. 27, 2024 in Phoenix, AZ from a massive stroke. He was born on Aug. 29, 1949 in Crosby to John and Elizabeth (Sabyan) Ravnik. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School, Central Lakes College in Brainerd, and attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Deciding that Minnesota weather was not to his liking, John moved to Colorado and then to Arizona. He was the ultimate optimist and had a zest and joy for life.
